Irving is a small village located in Montgomery County, Illinois, United States. It is situated approximately 50 miles south of Springfield and 60 miles northeast of St. Louis. The village has a population of around 500 people and covers an area of 0.5 square miles.
Irving was founded in the mid-19th century and was named after Washington Irving, the American author of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle." The village was primarily a farming community and later became a stop on the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad.
Today, Irving is a quiet residential community with a few small businesses and shops. The village is known for its annual Fourth of July celebrations, which include a parade, games, and fireworks. The community is also home to a local volunteer fire department and a park with a playground, pavilion, and sports fields.
